Welcome to the Home Page of the Seamen’s Hospital Society
The Seamen’s Hospital Society is a maritime charity that supports the welfare of seafarers, with a particular focus on health related needs and advice services. It was established in 1821 and incorporated by Act of Parliament in 1833.
The Society aims to assist working and former merchant seafarers and fishermen, and their dependants, by providing or supporting:
- Grants to individuals in need
- Grants to other institutions which assist seafarers
- The Seafarers’ Advice & Information Line (formerly the Seafarers’ Benefits Advice Line), a national telephone advice line for seafarers
- The Dreadnought Medical Service at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust
