Grants to Institutions
As well as helping individual seafarers, the Seamen’s Hospital Society has a long history of working closely with a wide range of other maritime organisations.
In 2010, the Society made grants totalling almost £400,000 covering a variety of projects. Among them were:
| Organisation |
Purpose |
| Nautilus Welfare Fund’s Mariners Park |
Care service, equipment, therapy |
| Merchant Seaman’s War Memorial Society |
Holiday, respite and convalescent breaks |
| Royal Alfred Seafarers’ Society |
Care home nursing costs |
| Royal National Mission to Deep Sea Fishermen |
Hospital visits and transport |

Which organisations can apply?
Any maritime organisation with charitable status may apply to the Seamen’s Hospital Society for funding in support of activities that relate to the health and welfare needs of seafarers. Sometimes we fund projects run by non-charitable organisations, but only in exceptional circumstances.
How do we apply?
Please contact us by phone, email or letter and ask for an application form.
When can we apply?
Grant application forms and instructions are circulated every summer to those who request them. They are considered during the autumn and grants are normally awarded in December. In exceptional circumstances grant applications may be considered at other times.
